Understanding Fees in the Simply Bread App
Here's a straightforward breakdown of our fee structure, how these fees are applied, and your options for managing them:
Platform Fee
- What is it? A 5% fee is applied to all transactions made through your storefront to support app maintenance and enhancements.
- Exceptions: There is no platform fee for manually placed orders or for POS system sales. Additionally, we refund this fee if an order is refunded.
- Responsibility: You are able to choose who pays this fee. It can be covered by you as the business owner, you can pass the fee on to your customer, or it can be split somewhere in the middle.
Credit Card Processing Fee
- What is it? Stripe, our payment processor, charges a fee of 2.5% + $0.30 per transaction, applicable only to electronic payments made through the storefront.
- Responsibility: You are able to choose who pays this fee. It can either be fully covered by you or fully covered by your customer.
POS System Fees
- What is it? When you use the Simply Bread App’s POS system for in-person sales, there is no platform fee. Instead, only a credit card processing fee applies.
- POS Credit Card Processing Fee: POS transactions are charged at 2.7% + $0.05 per transaction, which is slightly different from the standard storefront rate.
- Responsibility: As the bakery owner, you are responsible for these processing fees. POS credit card processing fees can not be passed on to your customer.

Q: What if I refund an order?
A: The customer will receive a full refund to their original payment method. We also refund any platform fees for refunded orders; however, Stripe’s processing fees are non-refundable.
Q: Can I absorb all the fees?
A: Yes, you can choose to absorb all fees, including platform and processing fees, to offer a seamless experience to your customers.
Q: Why are there no platform fees for POS system sales?
A: POS system sales don’t use the extra features that create additional costs for online pre-orders — like automated text messages for ordering reminders and pickup notifications. Because these in-person sales are cheaper for us to support, we don’t charge the 5% platform fee. We want to keep the Simply Bread App as fair and affordable for our bakers as possible.
