How to Safely Move Your Oven
Whether you're relocating homes, rearranging your bakery, or simply shifting the oven to a new spot, here’s what you need to know to safely move your oven.
Step 1: Remove the Stones Before Transport
Before doing anything else, remove the baking stones from inside the oven. This is an essential first step for two key reasons:
-
Weight Reduction: The oven weighs approximately 400 lbs with the stones and around 300 lbs without them. Since the stones weigh nearly 100 lbs, removing them makes the move significantly easier.
-
Stone Safety: The stones are fragile and can crack or break during transport if left inside. Transport them separately and securely, ideally wrapped in blankets or foam and laid flat.
Step 2: Positioning the Oven for Transport
Once the stones are removed, you can transport the oven in one of two orientations:
Option A: Upright Position
-
You can transport the oven standing up.
-
However, it is not recommended to rest it on the legs alone.
-
Instead, place wooden blocks under the oven frame to lift the legs slightly off the floor of the transport vehicle.
-
This prevents sideways forces or impacts from bending or breaking the legs during movement.
-
Option B: Laid on Its Left Side
-
The left side of the oven (the side with the lights) is the only completely flat side.
-
If you're laying the oven down, lay it only on this side.
General Transport Tips
-
Secure the oven with straps or braces inside the moving truck to prevent tipping or sliding.
